What are transferable skills?
We’re often told that transferable skills are invaluable and can apply to a range of different situations, but how would you go about identifying which ones you should improve on and how you can use them to sell yourself in interviews?
BYP Network and Barclays recognise the significance that transferable skills have in today’s rapidly changing job market, where employees are expected to be increasingly flexible and adaptable. And so we partnered together to bring our community a webinar addressing this vital topic.
These kinds of skills – be it communication, teamwork, problem-solving, multi-tasking or time management -.can not only make you excel in your current role but also enable you to become an outstanding candidate in any interview. Not to mention they are particularly useful if you are making a career pivot.
About the webinar
The online event, titled “Professional skill audit – what are my transferable skills?”, was held on 28th February and attracted 173 unique registrations. It featured Barclays’ Michael Sherman, Managing Director for Customer Strategy and Commercial Delivery; Sidney Wager, Mortgage Intermediary Partnerships Director; Natalie Ojevah, Diversity and Inclusion Lead – Vice President; Ayotunde Windapo, Product Develpoment Manager, and Audrey Adams, Innovation and Digital Strategy Lead.
By joining the hour-long webinar, our attendees were able to gain critical insight into the diverse range of individuals and roles within Barclays as well as receive career advice from high fliers within the firm. They heard from individuals sharing their personal experience of a number of different roles where Barclays currently have vacancies, and learned about the diverse range of skills that they brought with them.
Our attendees came away with valuable information and motivation: “it was great to see people working in the organisation, from graduate apprentice to director etc. Inspirational, great information reframing CVs to suit the situation. The all-Black panel was awesome”!
Another said, “great speakers and questions at the end were good and answered very well, very informative”.
Overall the event was a must-attend for all individuals looking to create a plan for their personal and professional success in any role, as well as those with a specific interest in the banking industry. Our attendees came away equipped with knowledge and tools to identify and leverage their unique and transferable skills in order to make them a lucrative company asset.
BYP was also able to collect 13 CVs from Black talent and pass them on to Barclays to connect with around future opportunities.
