Our New York Leadership summit is going LIVE from 12PM EDT on Friday, May 19, at the 5-star Hard Rock Hotel in Manhattan. Are you ready? We hope you’re as thrilled as we are!
We’ve prepared a jam-packed event for Black professionals at every stage of their careers. So, if you want to rub shoulders with top corporate executives, from Capco, Gartner, Kornferry, Techstars, Afrovibes, Misty Copeland Foundation, Afrochella, #HIREBLACK, Esquire Entertainment, Mediabrands, and East Coast Executives, to name a few, this is the place for you.
In line with the BYP mission to advance careers for Black professionals worldwide, we’ve got a list of seasoned speakers and hosts ready to help you become the exceptional leader you’re born to be. One such speaker is Gary Stewart.
Get to Know Gary Stewart
New York native Stewart has worked across the globe, most notably Spain and the United Kingdom. His professional background in business and technology has earned him a reputation of authority, and we’re sure you’ll leave his session inspired and motivated. He co-founded Wayra, a start-up accelerator owned by Telefonica, where he was instrumental in assisting and developing emerging digital firms. He currently works as the managing director of the Techstars New York City Accelerator.
Some of his accomplishments include:
- Director of Wayra UK and Wayra Social Ventures, where 185 start-ups were invested in.
- Former director of Wayra Spain, responsible for hubs in Barcelona and Madrid.
- He renovated and relaunched the IE Business School’s website.
Stewart is committed to supporting underrepresented innovators, ensuring they have access to resources, social capital, and the money they require and deserve. As an empathetic leader, he is guided by his personal belief that a person’s self-esteem cannot be determined by whether or not they have met high KPIs. Instead, you must maintain a strong network of relatives and friends who will remind you of your identity and keep you grounded and stable.
How Black Professionals Can Recession-Proof Their Careers
During our US Leadership Summit, Stewart will be joined by Omose Ighodaro, Co-founder of Afrovibes.com, and James Francis, Founder & CEO of Paradigm Asset Management, to discuss the current economic recession and how Black professionals can navigate such unprecedented times.
During their session, ‘Recession Proofing: How to survive through the downturn,’ they are diving deep into topics from financial management to mental resistance and self-care as a way to combat economic insecurity. Additionally, each speaker brings practical tools to help Black professionals understand and begin building their professional networks for support. We’re sure everyone who steps into the room will receive a powerful 25 minutes of insights to stay ahead of the game.
