Who runs the world? Why, GIRLS of course! The global risk management company Assurant knows it too. Founded in the 1800s in New York City, N.Y., the corporation provides a diverse set of speciality, niche-market insurance products in the property, casualty, extended device protection, and preneed insurance sectors.
Assurant recognises the opportunity to welcome and encourage a diverse environment reflective of its vast customers and clientele. They are prioritising cultivating a workplace culture where everyone feels welcome, regardless of their background.
How ERGS Can Be A Solution
At Assurant, they aim to harness the collective strength of their unique differences to work better together, unlock creative potential and ultimately make the business a stronger, more innovative place to work.
Women@Assurant
Assurant launched Women@Assurant to support women with their personal and professional growth by providing mentorship, leadership development, and sponsorship.
Social capital is an important but unwritten rule of success. We know that women are historically not granted the same access to that capital as their male counterparts. Women@Assurant challenges that narrative. Their team is creating a forum to encourage collaboration, connection, and innovation. They work to highlight and provide information on the growing need to support women.
The commitment to increasing the representation of women in leadership positions is also internal. Alecia Bailey was appointed as the head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in June 2021. This is after joining the company in 2013.
Bailey’s promotion speaks to the ERG by creating spaces, bridging, and bonding opportunities for women.
Women in the UK Play A Major Role in D&I
Employees who join Women@Assurant are joining women and allies across each of their business units, functions, and locations.
It means becoming a part of a powerful community that actively shares expert knowledge supports each other’s growth and celebrates achievements together.
It also means employees will be investing in their own careers, while helping to build inclusive communities, promote diversity of thought and advance equality for everyone across Assurant.
Allyship is also a key component to building an actively empowered and diverse workforce. They recognise that all employees of all genders have the opportunity to play a role in building communities worldwide. It is an advantage to embrace others with meaningful actions through allyship.
The Women@Assurant Leadership Team sponsored a Diverse Perspectives Program in honour of International Women’s Day. They gathered employees from across the company to celebrate, empower and develop women at all levels.
The organisation is undoubtedly excited about how the Women@Assurant ERG will build a stronger community of women within the organisation.
